She stood there in a dress of white
The first of her lies
Preparing to make promises
She wasn’t sure she wanted to keep
Signing up for a life of mediocrity
Was the best she could do
She deserved no better
Her unrealized dreams had taught her that lesson
So at the end of the day she hung her white dress
In the back of her closet along with her hopes
And it turned to gray along with her
