Just last night I dreamed I could fly

I soared weightless

I reached lofty heights

I could see and feel the beauty all around me

I was a part of the splendor

Yet the morning dawned

and so the dream died

I awoke in my true state

A rotting mind that can hold no thought

a body atrophied from lack of desire

A spirit crumbled and broken beyond repair

I closed my eyes willing myself to sleep

to dream, to fly once again

to become someone who I’m not

so that I would not rot away

Then perhaps I could stave off life’s decay
